Crochet for beginners-Granny squares.

We are almost at the end of the first (hopefully of many) Granny tastic crochet course, run by Yours Truely at The Brighton Sewing Centre. Last week the lovely Ich bin ein baum came along and took these pictures to show y'all how we roll on a tuesday night.

quilty pleasures #1

Finally finished my quilted waist coat. I tweeted a few images as i was making it but forgot to photo the process of tracing, cutting, quilting, binding and the many, many knots i had to tie to secure the quilty goodness. Lots. I am very pleased with this first attempt! And at just how gross a colour combo i chose. Next up is a lightweight wool circular skirt with shaped waistband! Jumper is coming along...slowly!

Just Sew

I defy anyone to go into The Brighton Sewing Centre on North rd and not find inspiration. Every nook and cranny is filled to the brim with glorious colour, glimmering threads and sparkling buttons. The overhaul this little, once dingy and out dated shop has seen in the last 18 months is immense! And it is almost unrecognisable as the place i took my 7 gauge knitting machine to be fixed 4 years ago. Sewing heaven. The lovely staff have encyclopedic knowledge of everything from sewing machines and quilting to free motion machine embroidery and pattern cutting... and teach an array of super exciting classes to run alongside all these activities! Well what are you waiting for?! As i mentioned in an earlier post, 2011 at M.A.P is all about Make.Do.Mend. Well look no further...My crafty little fingers are a tappin' and my brain instantly dizzy with an array of project ideas that there are just not enough hours in a day to get stuck into.

Pop in and have a peek... and see if you can leave empty handed. The pompoms are awesome!

swap fast, fix up, look sharp

Its that time of year when all our clothes seem dull, worn out, boring. You can't stand a single thing you own! its to early to pull out your favourite summer frock, but those tights are wearing thin... 

I got together with a few fancy creative female pals to test run a 'swap and fix' night at my studio. Picnic dinner, Check! Piles of over worn outfits, Check! A few dresses that are too long and have never been worn but the print is lovely, Check! (some unflattering photos, Check!)

We swapped a few, chopped a few, kick dropped a few. 

This red number was a stunning print but looked hideous on everyone and was deemed unwearable!

A highly successful evening overall... swapping saves money and the environment! And refreshing that Lovely long Laura Ashley skirt can be as easy as chopping a few inches off the hem. We'll be tweeking the idea a bit in the next few days and hope to be working on a spectacular She's called Claire event very soon! Until then keep up to date with Miss McCullough and the musically marvelous Donna Fullman,  And remember to......

2nd class - 9th March - Transferring/deciding on motif and colour work

3rd class - 16th March - Stitching final design and finishing

Using "traditional" hand embroidery stitches with a contemporary vintage twist, this class will introduce you to a vast array of foundation stitches to create patterns and motifs on a fun and functional fabric shopper bag. You'll learn a variety of effects, how to work on an embroidery hoop and mix yarns and colours to give your projects a new crafty dimension, over three 2 hour classes.

Motifs can be designed free hand, translating your own original ideas, or working with a selection of vintage transfers provided. The possibilities are endless, make a real statement with this project!
